A YEAR IN THE GARDEN: MAY
A YEAR IN THE GARDEN: MAY
Sunday 17th May
Tutor: Karen Carter
10:00 - 16:00
Level: Beginner and up
Join us as we track an artistic year in the garden, taking inspiration from both our own gardens and the lovely surroundings of Micklems Farm. Looking at the work of William Morris, and taking inspiration from the repetition, pattern and flat colour used in his designs, we will start by making a page of stylised flower and foliage shapes gathering inspiration from the garden (or photos from your own garden).
We will then use these to create a ‘folk art’ style design which can be used to make a full-page piece of art, or as page borders and frames in a sketchpad, or even the beginnings of a Victorian Puzzle purse – you will be shown how to make a prototype for the folding and construction of this wonderful structure (traditionally used for secret love letters!)
There will be lots of demos & step-by-step instruction in this absorbing and mindful project – perfect for a bit of ‘me ’time – no experience needed.
What to bring:
Reference photos / magazine images of flowers and foliage – weather permitting, we will have a quick walk round the gardens at Micklems for inspiration.
