A YEAR IN THE GARDEN: WINTER

Join us as we track an artistic year in the garden, taking inspiration from both our own gardens and the lovely surroundings of Micklems Farm.
We start in the depths of winter when the colours are muted and subtle – dark evergreens of holly, ivy, fir trees & pine cones. Then suddenly an unexpected splash of light and colour from clusters of bright winter berries and the first hellebores & snowdrops braving the cold.
Working mainly in watercolour and coloured pencils we will make sketchbook studies, looking at colour mixing, shape and form – covering a variety of techniques. We will then put it all together in a fun project to celebrate the beauty of winter.
There will be lots of demos & step-by-step instruction in this fun and informal workshop.
What to bring:
Reference photos / magazine images of winter plants – weather permitting, we will have a quick walk round the gardens at Micklems for inspiration.
Several sheets of medium to heavy-weight watercolour paper (approx. 220gsm or heavier)
Drawing pencil
Low-tack masking tape
Watercolours or Gouache) – whatever you have – if buying specially just buy primary colours (plus a tube of white gouache if working in watercolour)
Coloured pencils if you have them (the tutor will also bring some to share)
Mixing palette, brushes (whatever you have) – the tutor will also bring some
Apron
A packed lunch

A selection of tea, freshly brewed coffee, biscuits and delicious cakes

Terms - Fee is payable on booking. If, having booked, you can no longer attend, we are unable to offer a refund. However, you may nominate someone else to attend the workshop or class in your place by notifying us using the contact page on the Micklems Farm website. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop up to 48 hours prior to the workshop date. We will only cancel due to insufficient places sold and you will be refunded the full amount paid.
