We are pleased to offer a brand new drawing and painting course for beginners, led by our talented tutor Lucy Burton.

All materials are supplied and fresh coffee, tea, and biscuits are provided.

Level explained:

This 10-week course is fully guided with plenty of demonstrations, one-to-one tuition, and expert hints and tips to bring out your inner artist, helping you build your skills and confidence over time. You will be introduced to a wide selection of art materials, including pencils, coloured pencils, charcoal, ink pens, soft pastels, oil pastels, collage, watercolours, and acrylic paints.

This ten week course is from Wednesday 9th September until Wednesday 18th November, with a break for half term week commencing 19th October. Each class runs for three hours, and all materials are provided ready for you to use. Our projects will be based on still life, botanicals, landscapes, and figurative subject matter. These projects are enormously varied, covering the first steps and essentials needed to build a broad understanding of drawing, painting, materials, mark-making, tone, composition, colour theory, and perspective.

If you are looking for a supportive, relaxed, friendly, and fun atmosphere to learn how to draw and paint, we would love to welcome you to our art group. Lucy will give a short presentation at the beginning of each class to talk you through the stages of work for the day, with demonstrations where appropriate. She will also provide step-by-step notes for you to take away, leaving you with plenty of time to work through the stages at your own pace.

Projects generally run over two weeks, allowing you ample time to practice and develop finished pieces.

Lucy has been teaching at Micklem’s Farm since 2020. Critique is individually focused with no right, wrong, or expected outcome, but rather a goal of personal development and original expression.

We look forward to welcoming you and supporting you on your artistic journey.

Please note that each term features different seasonal projects, so there are no repeats from previous terms.
