Make and decorate your own ceramic winter sgraffito plate in this creative pottery workshop, guided step-by-step by Chloe. Combining hand-building and surface decoration techniques, you'll first create your own plate from a slab of clay, learning how to shape and form it using simple hand-building methods. You'll then decorate your plate using the traditional art of sgraffito, a technique where coloured glaze is applied and carefully carved away to reveal the clay beneath. Inspired by snowy landscapes, woodland wildlife, cosy cottages and seasonal motifs, you'll bring your design to life through a combination of drawing, mark-making and carving, creating a unique winter scene full of texture, detail and movement.

Design ideas and examples will be available on the day, but you're welcome to bring your own inspiration if you have a particular winter scene, festive theme or favourite landscape in mind. Whether you choose a snowy woodland, a cosy cottage, winter wildlife or a more abstract design, you'll leave with a truly personal piece.

At the end of the workshop, Chloe will take your plate away to be carefully dried, glazed and kiln fired. This process takes approximately 2–3 weeks. Once complete, your finished ceramic plate will be returned to Micklems for collection.

Materials:
Materials will be provided by the tutor. The cost of these is £10, which includes the clay, slips, glazes, glazing and firing, payable to the tutor during the course.

Terms - Fee is payable on booking. If, having booked, you can no longer attend, we are unable to offer a refund or transfer you to another workshop. However, you may nominate someone else to attend the workshop or class in your place by notifying us using the contact page on the Micklems Farm website. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop up to 48 hours prior to the workshop date. We will only cancel due to insufficient places sold and you will be refunded the full amount paid.
