MAKE & PAINT: CERAMIC SEED HEAD VASES

MAKE & PAINT: CERAMIC SEED HEAD VASES
Monday 16th November
Tutor: Chloe Phillips
10:00 - 16:00
Level: Beginner and up
Create your own ceramic seed head vase from clay in this coil-building pottery workshop, guided step-by-step by Chloe. Inspired by the sculptural shapes of seed pods, you'll learn how to transform clay into a handmade vase using traditional coiling techniques. Suitable for all skill levels, you'll build your vase entirely by hand, learning how to roll, shape and layer coils to create the vessel form.
Chloe will guide you through each stage of the process, demonstrating how to construct a strong and balanced shape before refining the surface and adding the distinctive seed head-inspired rim. Throughout the workshop, you will learn techniques for joining, smoothing and sculpting clay to create a beautifully finished piece with character and texture.
Once your vase has been made, you will be able to choose from a selection of beautiful glazes to complement your design. Chloe will discuss glaze options and combinations, from subtle and elegant finishes to more expressive effects, helping you select a finish that enhances the form and texture of your vase.
At the end of the workshop, Chloe will take your vase away to be dried, glazed and kiln fired. This process takes approximately 3–5 weeks. Once complete, your finished ceramic vase will be returned to Micklems for collection.
