Level: Beginner and up

In this workshop we will look at ways to create a landscape painting using loose expressive brush marks, using an autumnal colour palette. We will discuss the work of ‘The Impressionists’ who used expressive brushwork, and limited colour palettes to suggest the season and time of day. There are so many ways that you can set about painting a landscape. Lucy will encourage you to experiment and help you to develop your own unique painting style. Focusing on tone, colour mixing, composition and brushwork. Advice and demonstrations will be provided throughout the day.

What will be supplied:

An Autumnal Image (or you can bring your own to work from)

What to bring:

• A canvas or board 10” x 10” square, 12” x 12” square, A4 or A3

• A selection of flat, filbert & round brushes

• A selection of artist quality paints oils or acrylics – eg Daler Rowney Starter Set plus a tube of Burnt Sienna

• Palette knife – eg. Winsor and Newton size 22

• Paper Palette and a box to take your work home in

• Oils only: A jar and some low odour thinners/ white spirit substitute for cleaning your brushes, some rags or plenty of tissues to wipe brushes clean. 

Optional extra items

• ‘Liquin’ painting medium if working in oils

• A ‘Stay-wet’ palette if working in acrylics

Included on the day:

• Any other materials not specified for the students to bring

• Expert tuition

• 1 to 1 guidance

• Detailed demonstrations

• A selection of tea, freshly brewed coffee, biscuits and delicious cakes

Terms - Fee is payable on booking. If, having booked, you can no longer attend, we are unable to offer a refund. However, you may nominate someone else to attend the workshop or class in your place by notifying us using the contact page on the Micklems Farm website. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop up to 48 hours prior to the workshop date. We will only cancel due to insufficient places sold and you will be refunded the full amount paid.
