It all started for me while digging in the garden. Finding shards of broken china in amongst the vegetables and flowers was, for me, like finding nuggets of gold. I stuck the pieces randomly on a large urn I had in the boot room but soon my passion for the china took over the gardening and mixed with my habit of picking up unwanted pots and crocks from skips and shops I began creating pique assiette (“Stolen Plate”) mosaic pieces.  My love of history, art and craft means that each shard, back stamp and crack hold a value all in itself.

Along with bringing up a family and gaining my degree in Humanities with Art History, I have had careers in education and heritage and for the past four years been concentrating on making and teaching pique assiette mosaic making. As Cracktpot Jo, some would say an apt epithet,  I work from my studio at Ayres House, Wallingford which is where I also teach workshops and evening classes. I am thrilled to be part of the team at Micklems farm sharing my love for creativity in the broken and beautiful.
